StructaCAD

Reinforcement & detailing

How can I automatically detail columns from ETABS?

In this guide

The answer

Import the column geometry and available design information, then review the reinforcement and sections in StructaCAD. Pay attention to changes in dimensions, orientation and steel between stories. Check those transitions before exporting the column drawings to AutoCAD.

Put it into practice

  1. Import column locations, story ranges, section dimensions, and design information.

  2. Group compatible columns while keeping changes in section or reinforcement visible.

  3. Generate cross sections, ties, confinement zones, and elevation continuity details.

  4. Review splice locations, confinement requirements, and constructability before issue.

Example output from StructaCAD. Your drawings will depend on the model and the options you choose.

Before you export

  • Check that the design demand belongs to the right element and location.
  • Review the chosen reinforcement, cover and continuity between details.
  • Check the result against project criteria and applicable standards before issue.

Continue with the complete workflow

Inspect the reinforcement drawings and schedules, then review the details your project needs.

A little more detail

Can I change the generated reinforcement?

Yes. You can review and modify reinforcement in StructaCAD before producing the final output. Check the bar arrangement in the views you will deliver and regenerate the drawings after making changes.

What happens when my model changes?

Bring in the updated information and regenerate the affected drawings. Compare versions before issue. Review any edits made to the DXF in AutoCAD separately when replacing an export.

YOUR NEXT STEP

Try it with a model you already know.

Start with a floor plan or a frame. Review the result, make your adjustments and see how it fits the way you work.
